Southern Pacific 5472

January 8, 2005 saw the completion of a journey, started 18 years earlier, of some of the PLA's equipment to the Niles Canyon Railway.  Twenty Two locomotives and cars moved on their own wheels from the old Oakland Army Base to Hearst siding, the PLA's new connection to the Union Pacific Railroad and the outside world.  We were able to use our own motive power for the move and long time member Lou Bradas was the engineer.  Ryan Martin, a friend and excellent photographer, gave me permission to post the contents of his submissions about the move to Trainorders.com.  They have been slightly edited for content and most comments by other posters have been eliminated.  All photos are copyright by Ryan Martin or other photographers as noted.  Clicking on the thumbnail images will link to a larger photo.  Use your browser's back button to return to this menu.
